Fall is in the Air

Silly Sally as a redhead
With cooler temps and fall approaching, I thought I would display some fall colors in my planting. My pot lady was added this year. I will do a complete post about creating her when I have more time. She told she wanted to be a redhead, hence the rust colored mum. I am already planning her Christmas outfit.
My planter made from an old bed frame is planted to greet the season in style. I love this time of year, but it is bittersweet, because I know soon I will be getting ready to tuck my garden away for the long cold (burr) winter months. This planter is located on the side of the driveway, so it greets my visitor and the season.

Thrift Store/Rummage Sale Shopping

My sister and I had some good luck today. I found these two chairs for the garden. They are painted a nice bright cheery color. They came with some very pretty floral chair pads. I think these will end up in the Greenhouse when it is done. $4.00 each. Can't beat that price.

Wood table legs and some plastic banister spindles that will become butterflies and dragonflies. A project for the winter months.
Glass and pottery that will become garden flowers and totems.

Some glass lamps taken apart and will become totems.
Some items that will be placed in my garden. Love white accents in the garden
A plastic display piece Hubby got...once I removed all the stickers and cleaned it all up, it will be great to put all the screws, wing nuts and washers, etc in it. I love having in it's place and a place for everything.

Our Garden Path Designs

Hanging Chandelier from Wire Baskets.

I got 4 wire planters at a local thrift store for 75 cent each. 2 solar lights from Target for $1.50 each and an idea from Pinterest fresh in my mind.

I remember I had these plastic chandelier parts that I had from a light I used in a Garden Totem I had made. These are very cheap looking and a light yellow. So I decided to spray them black to match my idea. I also gave the planters a fresh code of black paint.
The I removed the bottom stem from the solar light and all I had to do was place it in the top or should I say the bottom of the wire basket. Perfect fit...like it was meant to be.
I then used a shepherd hook and placed it in a pot behind my patio furniture. It's very hard to get a decent picture of this. I don't know if it will stay here...I have to see it at night before I decide. For a couple of bucks...I think it adds a little charm to my patio.

I had got this base at a thrift store for a couple of bucks thinking I could put a bowling ball on it. But that didn't work out. So I wired the two other baskets together to put something on top of this base.  For $1.50 it will do, till something better comes along.

Tipsy Buckets

This is a Tipsy Bucket display I made using wash tubs I got from my Mother-in-law while getting her house ready for her estate sale. I love that they have history and now found a new life in my garden. The watering can I got at a rummage sale.

Assorted sizes of buckets and watering can. Mike used conduit, hammered deep into the ground.

He then drilled holes into the buckets once I decided how I wanted it to sit on the pole. He then threaded the next tub on and did the same thing. He then screwed the two tubs together.
I used pot liners to help hold in the soil. Next year I am going to have Mike wire some chicken wire half way up the opening to hold the liners in better.

These were a clusters of grapes I got from a resale store for 25 cent. Took them apart and threaded them onto some fish line. Lucky for me the spout was broken so it was easy to thread and knot them into the spout. I then used a small dowel to hold the spout onto the watering can. I think I am going to enjoy picking out new flowers each year to fill these tubs and will be a living memory of my Mother-in-law. She loved seeing the picture of what I did with them.

Update: After using it for the first year, I decided that I needed something to help hold the coconut liner in. I had Mike secure some chicken wire to the front of the tubs half way up with some screws. I decided on planting some inpatients in it this year (2013) because our tree is getting bigger so I have more shade now.

Garden looking good after a little help from my brother.

My brother helped weed during the plant sale....I am so happy he got it looking so good...because I had to give tours of the garden, which sold more plants.

Plant Sale...I will be doing this again!

The plant sale did really well. I had it on Sat and only part of Sunday. I had to close down early we had a family emergency. I only advertised on Craigslist the second day...and used signs on all the busy streets around my location to draw in people. It paid off...I made $850. I will start earlier next year...dividing more plants for my variety.
What's a garden sale without Lemonade and Brownies?  Who could refuse those sweet faces?

Baby Bunny Nest Found

Cleaning up the flowerbed...I  found a little baby bunny nest. I can not kill them, like most gardeners do. We took pictures as they grew bigger and bigger. They are gone now....and not one of my plants got munched on. I think there is about six or seven in the nest.

This was the last picture I got....the next day the nest was empty. I am hoping they are hopping around and the neighborhood cat didn't get them.

New windows and clean siding!

We have half the windows replaced with new ones. Vinyl-Pro did an awesome job...I have the other half of the house ordered. It was so nice this weekend..Mike and I decided to power-wash the house, before the new windows come in.
Ernesto stopped by to give some of my divided plants a new home in Green Bay.  Another garden reaps the rewards of my perennials.
