Some new planters for the yard.

I got two new planters for my front pouch from Mike for my birthday. Now we just have to get some warmer weather so I can get them planted. I am going to go find some packing peanuts to fill the bottom of it up tomorrow.

My brother found this on the curb. (Out of guilt or not... gave it to me because he loves his sister and it was her birthday..LOL !!!) OMG...I loved it...I added the pot and can't wait to plant it also. I am going to go buy some flat clear coat spray tomorrow. I hope to protect the wood a little from the rain. I just love the old cracked paint on it. Real character, just what the garden needs.

Spring Fling!

Looks as if my Moms house is again going to be the place to witness a birth. We have a nest with 12 Mallard eggs in it as of yesterday.

Here are some fun facts about Mallards:

Mallard groups can often be seen head dipping or completely upending in the water. They rarely dive though, spending their time near the surface and dabbling for invertebrates, fish, amphibians, and a variety of plants. They also graze on land, feeding on grains and plants.Mated pairs migrate to and breed in the northern parts of their range and build nests on the ground or in a protected cavity. They normally lay about a dozen eggs, and the incubation period lasts just under a month. Mallards are territorial during much of this period, but once incubation is well underway, males abandon the nest and join a flock of other males.

I hope we get to see the little ones! I will keep you posted on their progress.

Spring cleaning continues!

The forecast for today was for rain. I am glad the weather man was so wrong... it was so nice today. I got some more of my flower beds cleaned up. My brother even delivered my trailer and lawn furniture, that I had stored in my Mom's garage for the winter. It was nice to be able to sit down and rest between my many trips to the trailer to empty my garden tote with all the clean-up debris.

This is the pond bed...We made the cement path last year and I inspected it today. It held up perfectly, even in the harsh winter we had. I will be adding a path in the other flower bed this year and hopfully connect the two.

The gardener's work is never at end; it begins with the year, and continuesto the next: he prepares the ground, and then he sows it; after that he plants, and then he gathers the fruits....- John Evelyn, Kalendarium Hortense, 1706

Spring Clean Up

This is the island flower bed. I made this one bigger last year and changed a lot of the plantings. I am looking forward to seeing how this one looks this year

Spring has sprung a leak in my backyard

April 12th and we are still feeling the efforts of the cold north winds, with rain and from time to time mixed with snow. Will spring ever come? My
backyard is flooding a little more each day.We need some sun to dry up the ground, so I can get out there and finish up my spring clean-up. The rain did paint with the color green as the grass starts to show some sign of life again.

April Fresh!!!

I am not a artificial flower kind of person, but the front of my house is so bare and I don't dare place real flowers outside just yet. I live in WI where one day it can be in the high 60's and the next below freezing. I purchased the pot and flowers at Hobby Lobby today, everything was 50% off so it came to just under $25.00
My sheets are going to literally smell APRIL FRESH tonight. Oh the small joys of spring time.

**singing to myself** Love is in the AIR!!!!...if not now..maybe tonight!!! HA HA HA

Spring Clean-up Begins - Flag Updated

Just like Brett Frave, I retired my Green Bay Packer flag. With temps in the upper 50's I thought it was time for my spring flag. I will be sharing my flag collection with you with the change of the season and or holidays.

I started my spring clean up today. I can't tell you how good it felt to be outside doing yard work. But I do HATE poop patrol!!!

I am going to give each garden nook its own label so you can see how each garden changes with the season. I am going to start on the backyard tomorrow. We are expecting temps in the 60's WHOHOOO SPRING HAS SPRUNG!

Spring is calling my name!

It's the first of April and to wet to even get in my garden. We had a lot of rain yesterday, hopefully everything will start to green up very soon. I can't wait to get out and get my hands a little dirty. But first I have to take my Christmas decorations down. The record snow fall we had this year prevented me from doing so sooner. This weekend I am going to do that and then I will post the first pictures of my garden, waking up from the long cold and snowy winter of 2007-2808.
